THE ATTACK
It was 6:00 am on a Sunday morning. Miley and I were taking our daily walk in our safe and quiet neighborhood. Without warning, or any noise, I saw out of the corner of my eye, a coyotes face RIGHT next to me trying to grab Mileys leg to take her down! I instantly threw her forward on her leash which caused the coyote to miss. It was at that moment I realized I had left without ANY of my protective items for such a possible attack as this. I started screaming at the top of my voice “HELP! HELP! HELP!”. I quickly decided I would cut through the houses onto the golf course. Miley and I started running in that direction when the OTHER coyote came around the corner to block us. We had been stocked by two coyotes and they were slowly coming towards us on each end. We stood there helpless. What can you do now? What would you do? Have you ever been in a situation where you were caught off guard and danger was right at your side? Jesus said in John 10:10 “ The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy”. The “danger” can be called a lot of things but God calls it sin. It can creep up, silently, when you least expect it, and catch you off guard with no way to fight it off. It starts with a thought, a desire, an action, a habit….unknown by anyone but God. With fear at my highest level, I screamed for God to help us. At that moment a woman came out of her house with a large green tarp in front of her running towards us yelling at the one coyote on the street side. Quickly, Miley and I ran out and we thought we were safe….but we were not. Evil can subside for a time but, like Jesus said, it will come back again. As I was running, I called Kev to get us. Some golfers saw me screaming for help, because the other coyote, was coming around the other side. The golfers surrounded Miley and me until Kev arrived. Kev ran towards us, picked up Miley, and threw her in the back of the truck. I ran the other way to get into the truck. And it was over. Since that time I have been afraid to walk my Miley alone. Instead, if I do walk her, Kev is with me and I am armored for a possible attack. This event has reminded me that evil lurks around all of us but, with God and putting on His armour (Ephesians 6:10-18) we can win. The key is in 2 Corinthians 10: 5 “ We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ”. Just like the moment I was helpless, I cried out to God for help and He heard me and provided a way out. If you find yourself needing help, call out to God and He will provide another path of safety….you just need to call. May God show Himself faithful to you in your greatest time of need.
