FATHER, SON BOND: THROUGH THE HEAT
It was a trip they both had waited for. With their love of mountains they headed to the High Sierras to Ruby Lake. Kev had everything packed in his red truck, aka known as Chili, and off they went. Not long into the ride the truck started to get hot. They pulled over and realized it was overheating. Kev looked at Jake and said “ Do you want to continue or go back?” No surprise Jake said “ Let’s do it dad “. In order to keep the truck running they turned off the a/c and put on the heater FULL BLAST. They finally made it to Ruby Lake. With its emerald glassy waters, the sounds of birds and no people ( this was during COVID), nature was at her finest. Everything they had hoped for was experienced….until it wasn’t. Going back was literally hell…I mean that HOT! It was in the summer and they were going TO Arizona with the heater on full blast, going very, very, slow…After what seemed like an eternity, they arrived back to our home and they both jumped into our pool laughing at what they had endured. Kevs one remark about the trip was this; “ Not once did Jake complain”. Why? Because he was with his dad. They were in this together and they would finish together….through the fire. I am reminded of another father, son bond with that same dedication….God the Father, and Jesus the Son. God’s love for us was going to require the sacrifice of His Son, His only Son. When Jesus was faced with the decision to die for us, the Father gave Him the choice. Jesus response? “ Let’s do it dad”. They started together before the beginning of time, went through death together, rose from the grave together, and conquered hell together. It is when bonds of family go through times of great trials that their bond is strengthened, refined…just like gold when it goes through the fire. This Fathers Day I pray fathers will know how much you are loved from your family and are grateful for all that you have sacrificed. And a heartfelt gratitude to our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus, for their sacrifice and love for us all. Happy Fathers Day!
