AND JUST LIKE THAT

He’s home. After two months Jake walked back into his home, still with crutches but can now put some weight on his injured leg. He is still going to PT 3/wk and hasn’t been completely cleared but the surgeon thinks in another month he may be able to put his full weight on his leg…and maybe go back to work, whatever that looks like. But, what he wanted the most? To drive..to be independent…and that’s exactly what the surgeon cleared him to be able to do because it was his left leg and not his right one that was injured. Today he will be able to drive himself to church, to friends homes, to adult youth group, volunteer at the food bank..The places may look the same but Jake is not. Whenever you experience a life changing event, you will be changed forever, sometimes for the good or sometimes for the bad. As I was driving Jake back to his home I asked him how he was feeling about everything. There was a little bit of trepidation but he was convinced of one thing…he needed God. Although he has been a Christian for a long time, this journey was personal between God and himself. He couldn’t depend just on himself, or sometimes, on others. But that is exactly what the Lord required…complete dependance on Him. He is still in the valley, crutches and all, but he is beginning to see a new path…coming out of the darkness into the Light. Some of us may not have suffered a physical injury, but we too are walking with crutches, unable to move out of the darkness of our life. Our past hurts, secret sins, rebellion to truth, fear of change, unhealthy habits…these can all hold us back from a life without crutches. As Jake has shared, leaning on God is the one constant he could count on, now and for his future. What about you? Are you ready to walk with Jesus? Time is running out to make this decision, so what is keeping YOU from this new path? Are you ready to give up those things that are hindering you from living your best life in Jesus? As the Bible writes in Hebrews 12:1-2 “ Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off EVERYTHING that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith”. Jake isn’t finished with this journey but he’s walking in the right direction..towards God. I pray that you too might let go of those things that are hindering you from the life you were meant to live…and walk tall in the Light of Jesus…
