THROUGH THE FLOODS, THE SONG OF ANGELS

The bus slowly headed back to the families awaiting the arrival of those girls who were evacuated from the floods in Texas. It had been a very long night for all of them. In the darkness came the sound of rushing waters, almost 30 feet high. Screams could be heard all around Mystic camp. Helicopters came in and started to airlift the girls. Cold, scared, sad, they got on the bus. And, just like they had done a hundred times, they began to sing. One by one, they sang..quietly at first but as they heard the lyrics, they began to sing in one accord with shouts of praise…to God. The song’s lyrics was this; “ Shout it from the mountain tops that Jesus is Alive. Praise God!!” And as they finished they came to the crossing of the roaring flood waters. Silence. Quiet tears. Prayers. And then they began to sing…singing with those who had now passed away. They weren’t asking the question “Why God? Why weren’t we warned in time?” Instead, with the vision and the pastoral leadership of Dick Eastland, who also passed away trying to save the lives of many girls, they simply sang. Their faith was still intact….and, as many of us have seen, so have those in Texas….the governor, the first responders, the families who lost their little girls, and the thousands who have come to help. May these singing angels be a reminder to us all, that, in the midst of such sadness, we can still sing “ Shout it to the mountain tops that Jesus is Alive. Praise God”. Our prayers and songs continue to go out to those families who have lost their loved ones, and for finding the rest of the missing people so that they too can have peace. Thank you singing angels for showing us what true faith is….
