FRIENDSGIVING

As each person came in, so did all the myriad of smells of the most delicious of foods. Homemade cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes with the most delectable gravy, green bean casserole, colorful salads, stuffing, and for our contribution, Cornish game hens. With the tables set, the men went to the “ big table “ and the women sat at the “ little table “. Kev said a prayer of gratitude and the feasting commenced. You could hear the laughter, stories being shared, and the compliments of the Thanksgiving meal. What started out as simply a group of people coming together to learn how to study the Bible, is now a family. Did I mention our toddle acting Miley the dog? Yep. She waited patiently while we were distracted taking a group picture, and oh so sneaky, went into the trash, grabbed a chicken carcass, and quickly scooted into the other room. As we were about to click for the picture, Kim screamed, “ Does Miley have a carcass in her mouth”? I ran into the other room and grabbed it before she could choke and die! And so the laughter continued…as each said goodbye I was reminded again of how blessed we are to have friends to share the joy of the holidays and for the support of going through our journeys. But, it is also a difficult holiday for some. A few of my friends will be going through their first holiday without their spouse, some are going through chemo, and others are reminded of not so good holidays. But here is the HOPE. Jesus. After all, It is about HIM..about God sending HIM here, on earth, to show us, in the flesh, HIS LOVE, HOPE, PEACE and eternal life with HIM….that we are NEVER alone. As God shares in Deut. 31:8 “ Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.” This holiday season reach out to your neighbors, co-workers, those in need….and be the hands of Jesus. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
