DEEP ROOTS

Weeds. I hate weeds. But, as everyone knows, if you don’t keep on top of them they will overtake your plants and even destroy them. I started in the front yard where our roses grow. This particular kind of weed loves to intertwine itself right in the middle of the roses so that it is almost impossible to root out. After suffering the thorns, I finally did pull it out…along with the root of the rose brush. It was too late. As I continued pulling weeds this scenario was found again and again. My climbing roses also suffered the fate of a variety of weeds..not just one kind. This evil, as I called it, would attack their root system so they could not go deep where their nourishment and sustainability would help them thrive. Just as I was feeling hopeless , I saw something out off the corner of my eye. It was a bunch of baby yellow roses…climbing roses! After a year being exposed to the dangerous heat, deluge of rain storms, frigid cold, blossoms burst forth this week. Why did they survive but not the others? I found just a few weeds but they didn’t have an effect on them. Why? The soil. The soil they were growing in was rich with minerals and all good things . As a result, the roots had gone down deep so that they could withstand all the elements of this world….and thrive!!! As I pondered on this , I was reminded of the parable Jesus shared about the seeds that landed on different soils and the outcome of their growth. As we face the challenges ahead, our ability to grow through it will depend on the depth of our roots and the soil we use to sustain us. What are you using to help you through your most difficult times? Is it working or, like my dead roses, have you found yourself being uprooted from the worlds false securities? As Jesus taught in the parable of the seeds, we can ONLY find true peace and hope if our roots are in Jesus and our soil is in the Word of God. Though weeds may abound, they cannot destroy us if we are planted in the right soil. If you are struggling with the circumstances of your life, I encourage you to get back to Jesus and watch Him turn your weeds into blossoms of beauty…just like my yellow baby roses….
