THE FINAL SCORE
The next morning Kev came into the kitchen and announced “we blew it”. We had watched the game of the century ( and no not last nights game ) between the Knicks vs. Spurs until the halftime, believing like many others, that the Spurs had it. They had been ahead for the majority of the game…until the last 4 minutes. The 3 point shots were finally going in, one after another…and with 1.5 seconds left OG Anunoby made the historic shot, winning game 4 with the score of 107-106. They went on to win the 2026 NBA Finals the following game with the final score of 94-90, another nail biting end. But, this time, Kev and I watched it till the game clock buzzed and we shouted “the Knicks win” like millions of others, especially in New York. Isn’t that like life? It’s so easy to believe that the game is over, we are in an impossible situation, with less than 2.0 seconds left..how can it turn around now? We’ve watched Jake go from a place of “ I should have died “ to recovering and maybe changing his life in a new direction. We just saw what we call our adopted daughter get engaged…but I don’t forget the many tearful calls that this will never happen. But, the one closest to my heart, is my friend who’s husband has one more shot to live with the only option left..surgery. It will be extensive, complicated, and risky..but it is the only option. The Knicks had OG Anunoby to shoot the winning point. But we have God, the only true God, the one who controls the destiny of our lives and our future. He loves us and determines our last seconds in life. Like my friend and her husband, they trust in Him till the very end, believing He can change their circumstances, even when it’s a long shot. What is in the balance of your life? Are you at the point where you have less than 2 seconds before your life changes forever? Or maybe it’s not that dramatic but you have some important decisions to make and you just don’t know which direction to go in? Here’s the question. Is Jesus in your life, determining your choices, your direction? If He isn’t then the outcome has already been decided. Without Christ there is no hope at the end of the game….and we are at the 2 second mark now. Some of you are waiting till the last shot, believing that you will somehow win, if you just say a prayer. But Jesus says in Luke 9:23 “ If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me”. The Spurs thought they were going to win because they were so far ahead throughout the entire game. But, as they learned, it’s not how you start the game but rather how you end it. Jesus is knocking on the door of your heart now…don’t let the clock run out while there is still time. And for those who have picked up your cross to follow Jesus, let us be on the alert so that when we meet Jesus at the end of our game He can say “ well done, good and faithful servant”. And that my friend is how you win the final game…
