IMPACT

She kept crying, screaming so I hung up. By the 3rd time she screamed “ It’s about your son, Jacob King”. The EMT took the phone and asked me ,” Do you have a son named Jacob King? Are you his mom?” Immediately I prayed and said yes. and then he said the words no parent wants to hear…” your son has been a serious car accident with head injuries. We will be taking him to Thunderbird Hospital. When you get there tell the receptionist you need to go back and be with him”. I hung up, looked at Kevin, who was already heading for the car…and everything changed. We arrived at the hospital only to be told there was 9 other ambulances waiting for doctors and Jake was in one of the ambulances. Hour after hour we waited….and so did his friends. They kept coming throughout the night…praying…crying…supporting us..getting food and water for everyone…and an angel named Katie, who is also a nurse, began to go in emergency mode. She set up a go fund me account, she prepared us for what would be coming next…and hasn’t stopped yet. And then there is Mikey, his friend and roommate, who was there with Jake when he got hit. They had been on their dirt bikes and were at a crosswalk, one block from their house, when a woman hit Jake from a left turn..she never slowed down. Jake’s knee impacted her windshield, flew on the hood, and rolled off and landed on his left side. With 10 people all around him, Mikey calling 911, the driver crying hysterically, Jake laid there..He had a laceration to the bone, broke his knee and the top of the tibia, broke his left shoulder, had puncture wounds on his right leg that ended up with staples…but NO head injuries!!! Or neck!!! Or back!! When we got to finally see him in a corner of a room in the ER, he was alert and said “ Mom, dad…I’m alive. God is good”. Although there was a lot of blood on his head, it was his helmet that saved his life. God had spared his life and that was all we needed to know. Impact. When your life has been impacted with life changing news, you will find out exactly where your faith is with God, who your real friends are, and who will be there to help you through the darkest moments. Jake is still in the hospital ( 6 days) but we are hoping he will be discharged today. His best friend Andreas flew out from military school this weekend to be with him. A new friend named Niqo from his church Pure Heart, stayed the first night when Jake was in the hospital. All his friends he’s had since his time at GCU have been with him everyday since the accident. My neighbors are helping Kev and I. And my sissy is flying out today to help me because I”m having skin cancer surgery tomorrow. Impact. This picture will be a forever reminder of what life changing circumstances can do to you. You can see it as evidence that God doesn’t love you because He could have prevented this..or, like Jake said, God is good because He spared his life, his head, neck, back. Impact. Jake will now be staying with us during his road to recovery. Life has been altered but, as Jake and I listed while in the hospital, there are many, many blessings to be thankful for. For some of you you’re life has also been impacted with devastating circumstances. How are you handling it? Will it be a curse against God or will you cry at the feet of Jesus and let Him lead you through the deep waters of the unknown? The future is going to have its good days and its challenging ones but an impact like this can also get your attention and be open to change in your purpose, and experience the faithfulness of God like never before. Which will YOU choose? As written in the book of Joshua, he asks the Israelites, who are making a decision about whether to serve idols or God, he declares “ As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord”. Our family would like to thank all of you who have supported us during this difficult time, who have donated to Jakes go fund me account, who have been praying daily, who have committed to being with Jake throughout his recovery….thank you, thank you,… We now look at this picture of the glass impacted with our son’s body and praise God that He spared His life for something amazing, something worth living for…and for those who have or are still dealing with difficult circumstances…I pray you will cry at the feet of Jesus and let Him carry your burdens, your fears, your pain..and know He will take all of it and make it new again. Amen and amen….
